Privacy policy
How Dashtop and this website handle personal data. The app is local-first: most of what it works with never leaves your computer.
Who is responsible
Loom Factor Limited, trading as TrueWidgets, provides Dashtop and this website and is the controller of the personal data described here. It is registered in England and Wales, company number 15942000. Registered office: Unit 12 Wood Street, County Workshops, Dewsbury, England, WF13 1QU.
For anything about your data, email hello@truewidgets.com.
The Dashtop app
Dashtop is a desktop app. It keeps its data on your computer.
- Your API keys for other services are stored in your operating system's keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager or the Linux Secret Service). They are used on your computer to call each service and are not sent to us.
- The numbers, history and dashboards that Dashtop shows are kept in a local database on your computer.
- Dashtop requests data from each service you connect directly from your computer to that service. Those requests do not pass through our servers.
- There is no Dashtop account, and Dashtop sends no telemetry to us: no usage statistics, analytics or crash reports.
What the app does send to us
Dashtop contacts dashtop.truewidgets.com in two cases.
License checks
If you enter a license key, the app sends us the license key, a random install ID that Dashtop generates the first time it runs, and your computer's name. It does this when you activate or deactivate the key, when you choose Manage subscription (to get a link to your subscription), and then once a day (it also checks when the app starts). We use these to confirm that your subscription is active and to apply the limit of 3 computers per key.
The list of activated computers (install ID, computer name and time) is stored in the metadata of your subscription at Stripe. That is how the limit is tracked.
Update checks
Dashtop asks this website for a small file that says whether a newer version is available. Like any web request, this reaches our hosting provider, which sees your IP address.
This website
The website is hosted on Vercel. When you load a page, Vercel's servers handle the technical details of the request, such as your IP address and browser type, in order to serve it. The website does not use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics, and its fonts are served from our own domain.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address and, if you choose to answer, the other tools you pay for. They are stored with Resend, our email provider. We use them to email you about the Dashtop beta and launch and to decide which sources to build next. You can ask us at any time to remove you: email hello@truewidgets.com.
Buying Dashtop Pro
Purchases are handled by Stripe Checkout, and Loom Factor Limited is the seller. Stripe collects your name, email address, billing address and, if you give one, your tax ID, and passes them to us so that we can issue your license, keep a record of the sale and meet our tax and accounting obligations. You enter your card details on Stripe's page and Stripe handles them. We do not receive your full card number. Stripe's own use of your data is described in its privacy policy.
After you pay, this website asks Stripe for your license key and shows it on the page you land on. The first time it is shown, we also email the key to the address you paid with, using Resend.
The “Lost your license key?” page asks for an email address. We use it to look up Dashtop subscriptions at Stripe for that address and to send each key by email through Resend.
Who else handles your data
- Stripe: payments, subscriptions and customer records.
- Resend: sending emails (license keys and waitlist emails) and storing the waitlist.
- Vercel: hosting this website and the functions behind it.
These companies may process data outside the UK.
Why we use your data
- Waitlist: because you asked us to add you (your consent).
- Selling and licensing Dashtop: to carry out the purchase you made (contract), and to keep the records that the law requires of a business (legal obligation).
- License checks and the limit of 3 computers: to provide the license you bought (contract).
- Update checks and website hosting: to keep Dashtop and this website working and secure (our legitimate interests).
How long we keep it
We keep your data only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, including any period the law requires us to keep business and tax records.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to limit or stop using it, ask for it in a portable form, and withdraw consent you have given, such as for the waitlist. To use any of these rights, email hello@truewidgets.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new date.
